Is it possible the Big Bang was just a larger supernova? (i.e. fusion vs. gravity)?

I'm wondering whether the force of fusion on a subatomic level would be enough to create the expansion effect of the Big Bang - similar to a collapsed star. In that case, would it even have to start with a singularity, or could it have been a "crunched" earlier universe?
