Is the term "LOL" ever going to go away?

I hate the term "lol". On the web, people use it almost constantly, which sucks for me, but that's my cross to bear. It just occurred to me, however, that this retarded acronym may eventually go out of style, like other generational phrases (phat, tubular, groovy, etc.). Is this a realistic thing to hope for, or am I just a crazy dreamer? Will it end up being like the word "cool" and last for decades?
